NYC. Please join our beverage sponsor Wine & Spirit Magazine in the celebration and meet the artists and view their work September 27th at a party featuring DJ Amore, (Intlx Productions).

Up in the Air – Go Far Art transforms the gallery space into a colorful visual collage, at times a montage of collision, of pieces by Mycklebust and Stærk — enchanted visions of the altered visual ethics of Scotto Mycklebust’s universe, reflecting on the state of the world today, play with Sophie Stærk’s painterly and conceptual take on the domestic side of interiors, place, wilderness and sensuality to form an immersive and compelling experience.

“Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.” Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Reminding us of just that, artists from Lascaux to Warhol made a point of incorporating into their work imagery of the normal to the mundane, re-framed in a way that calls attention to what most of us ordinarily overlook.

In 21st Century we continue to develop myriad new directions in which to explore the object in art, provided by the expansion of both the technology to capture, transmit, manipulate and present the visual essence of Things, and the boundaries of how art itself is defined.

Of course it is up to artists to accept this invitation to expand in new directions  — or not. As evidenced by what they create in their Chelsea studios, Scotto Mycklebust and Sophie Stærk enthusiastically answered, “Yes!” In September, they will collaborate as individual creators in an expansive shared space for the exhibition Up in the Air – Go Far Art Show, featuring painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation — with and without internet intermediation.

Entering a museum-like space at the epicenter of contemporary art, expect to see bunnies, beach balls, traffic barricades – in real life and on paper, a tower of rococo chairs juxtaposed with the large-scale paintings they star in, as two artists present an environment where the viewer is immersed at every level with the intensity and significance  – from the social to the surreal — of their visual languages.

Minneapolis native and Viking descendant Scotto Mycklebust studied art and humanities at the University of Minnesota, and obtained degrees in Studio Arts, Visual Communications and Theater Set Design from Augsburg College. Mycklebust has long been a versatile and pioneering force in multimedia art; his practice encompasses painting, drawing, sculpture, sound, video, and performance.  Maintaining a studio in West Chelsea since 2009, he also publishes ART511 Magazine and organizes and gathers support for prominent projects around art and activism, including regular West Chelsea gallery district’s Artists Open Studios and the recent Eminent Domain exhibition featuring over 90 feminist artists.

Ann Sophie Stærk was born in Copenhagen, Denmark where she graduated from the Royal College of Art. She first exhibited in the United States in 2003 as part of the group “Quirky Girls” at the DCA Gallery in Chelsea, and later toured to Horsens Museum of Art in Denmark, where it was nominated for a prize. In 2004 Staerk was accepted to the ISCP (International Studio & Curatorial Program) in New York and has remained in the City, with her studio in Chelsea. Her work has been featured in Art Fairs such as: Scope, Art Basel, Miami, and the Armory Show as well as The Salvatorre Ferregamo Gallery, NYC. In 2006, Commissions include murals at the Dune design store in Tribeca, and Danfoss and a new courthouse, in Denmark.
